"...Consider me less like a silent Watterson or Schultz quietly orchestrating their comics from behind the scenes, and more like some dishevelled Hemingway or Edgar Allan Poe, who is always THERE whether you like it or not." - Carson Fire

Entry and Notices

As of the 29th October 2005: Yes, it's been a long time again. However:

Carson has been redesigning the EL site and has begun working on several projects concurrently: the 300-page book, resuming the main story, and a daily quickie version of Sprite Life to grace the main page.

You've also noticed that the URL for this site has changed: It's still a bag on the side of my personal site, but now I have purchased a domain! elflifeguide.breakthinktank.com is the new address, and will continue to be so for the next eleven months. Assuming I can scrape up the money for the next year's hosting. Paid isn't cheap.

Earlier...

As of the 13 March 2005... Yes, it's been about six months without any updates. I'm well aware of that; however, school, work and prepping a new site are the main reasons.

More importantly, Carson has suspended the saga of "The Wedding of Baughb the Elf" for many reasons: Firstly, his eyes are causing problems; Secondly, he needs money, lots of it, in order to afford the time required to draw what will be very complex and detailed scenes inside the crowded Great Hall. There are probably others, but those are the big two: His eyes and his finances. If he can't afford to, no comics. Same to you.

As a result, readers are getting a "prequel" to the events chronicled in Elf Life, drawn at a more bearable level of detail (for Carson) and more interesting, as it closely models the "storybook" style seen in Return of Glynhial.

As for myself, I've been busy working, studying, and thrashing out a new site's CGI programming. Assuming all goes well, once the main site's Perl script is working - basically, a streamlined and expanded version of the existing TNB script - this Guide should copy over with a minimum of fuss. I'm even saving my pennies for a domain address.

As of the 16th September... Good grief! Over two months without a formal update. Well, I've been adding some more information and breaking up NakedLies2 into multiple smaller pages for each story section. I've also plumped up Alice's information and added a page for Jay. This is definitely a work in progress, however.

This page is here in order to keep readers up-to-date with any alterations to the guide and/or the comic.

As of 6th July, Carson had a bit of a squeak when it came to this month's rent, so let's try doing more donations, eh? We don't want a replay of March, do you?

Admittedly there is the problem some fans have with money: either not having any, or not having a credit card, or both. And speaking of credit cards...

As of 13th June, we're one day away from Elf Life's fifth anniversary! For five years or so Carson's been cranking out (albeit with many life problems interfering) a high quality comic strip for us, his enthusiastic fans.

Actually, I've been neglecting this site horribly. Over the last month or so, Carson's been trying out some new ideas: one is a syndication-friendly strip about Nappo the Gnome, the other is a sexy comic strip.

More to the point, the donations system has been given an overhaul. Unlike a certain Mr. Milholland, Carson's aiming for quarterly goals of around US$4000. As of updating, he's just passed US$200. I'll be updating the donations page here shortly.

As of 10th May, I've done a bit of editing to the ComicBooks, DeathAndRebirth, SubGenius and ElfLifeFantasyForum pages. Some of that information was seriously out of date.

As of April the 1st, several very interesting matters came to light.

Firstly, you may have been aware that Carson was pursuing a draconian "buy or the archives die" campaign for several weeks, in a desperate attempt to scrape together the rent before he was evicted... before some jobs he'd applied for came to fruition. Thankfully, Keenspot finally came to his financial aid (helped partly by Cars finally accepting it!), so the future looks brighter. Much brighter.

Basically, an Elf Life book is in the works: 300 pages compiling the early strips, apparently from Classic to the end of Return of Glynhial. The happy event is expected to occur around the end of 2004. Start saving yer pennies, kiddywinkies; this is gonna be worth gettin'. I intend getting a couple myself...

However, the crisis of the last fortnight or so seems to have brought to light a very ugly side of human nature. Basically, here's a man who, through very unfortunate circumstances, has been knocked down and cannot get up. And do certain worthies stoop so low as to help him up? Do they show understanding and respect his efforts to rise?

Of course not. They scold him for getting into such a scrape in the first place. They scream at him for using the tactics he tries to use. They almost seem offended — nay, outraged — at the idea that he has to pay for rent, or food, or even art supplies, I bet. What do they think cartoonists live on, air?

Not entirely forgotten...
